Singularity: A hypothetical moment in time when artificial intelligence and other technologies have become so advanced that humanity undergoes a dramatic and irreversible change.
Three years ago, I was completely oblivious to the concept of “artificial intelligence.” I was unaware of what it meant. Artificial intelligence was a thing of killer robots in the nineties with the help of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. Make no mistake: We are in-fact living in an Industrial Revolution — and we’re going too fast to stop.
The singularity isn’t approaching; it’s already here.
Underemployment can be defined as mastering skills that lack an opportunity to apply. It occurs when individuals are working jobs that do not fully utilize their skills, qualifications, or experience… So, why have Millennials been chasing college degrees that have no job awaiting them? Or why have Millennials been told, “If you work hard enough, you can have any future you want” — only to be disappointed with a mountain of college debt? It’s because our world is going too fast to comprehend. One great idea from yesterday is outdated today. One promising job yesterday is a waste of time today.
It was during the Covid pandemic in which there was an explosion in the number of online virtual assistants. It was an opportunity to work at home. It provided a method to make a living while being safe from Covid. But today, that’s completely changed. The need for virtual assistants has extinguished. Every virtual assistant can be fired with no negative consequences. This is brought by the aid of artificial intelligence. A phone’s AI app gets the job done — for free! This “virtual assistant” on our phone is available anytime and anywhere. Do you want an elaboration on an article you don’t understand? Do you need to write a report here and now? Are you too tired to write the report? Artificial intelligence can do all of that. No longer do you need to pay for the sweat of another’s brow. You only need a phone and an app.
So, have all of our problems faded away? Has our society reached the pinnacle of existence? Do we no longer have needs? No. Not by a long shot. AI can’t cure loneliness. AI can’t be a trusted friend by our side. AI can’t be a hand on our shoulder. AI can’t be an embrace in a time of need. Only a person with a God-given heart of flesh can ever do that. We can’t live without authenticity, vulnerability, or trust. We mentioned in past blogs of how the Millennial Spark is strategically positioned to supply what AI cannot. In other words, AI cannot fulfill the need for true fellowship. The need for the Millennial Spark will not fade away. It cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence. Neither will our need for Christ’s love fade away. Our desire for “organic love” is what the world will need as we go further into the future.
With all that’s been said, our compassion and love is needed more than ever. God’s purpose for us remains important. This is a keen opportunity for us to tell the world of Christ’s love. I’m not talking about churches “seducing” non churchgoers to join *this* church and not *that* church. As mentioned in a previous article of this ministry, “It is not about competition, but of collaboration.” The method of introducing others to Christ needs to lack pressure and conformity. It needs to include time and personal space to think. Until then, let us be strong and true in our faith. May we embrace self honesty and authenticity at this time. The world needs it…
